Final Exam, Part 2

My first example for my newfound media literacy is the skill I have learned in Adobe Illustrator and Flash. I feel like these skills can give me an edge in the workplace because it seems as though more industries are working with these types of products, especially within my major of communications. Not only are they enjoyable to use, but they provide a more appealing way of getting your own ideas out into the world.

My next example is the fact that we discuss what is going on in the media each day at the start of class. With my newfound media literacy, I’m actually interested in the news and I feel smarter when I get asked what’s going on in the world and I know the answer. After taking this course and utilizing the skills and new perspectives I have developed, I can give my own valid opinions on the media.

My last example is that I can now appreciate the media as a form of artwork. It’s a type of expression that people in the field of communications use to get their ideas out into the world and share with the rest of society. Media literacy has opened my eyes to things I would have never seen or thought of looking for. I have much more respect for the media and I have to look deep into everything presented before me.

Blog Entry #10For my last blog, I’ll talk about the new Harold and Kumar movie. I saw it just before finals to get a good laugh in and I thought it was funnier than the first one. It’s definitely more stereotypical and racial, but you have to keep an open mind when watching these kind of movies. I enjoyed it, it made me laugh, and I recommend the movie if you want to see something funny.

Blog Entry #9We watched the movie Idiocracy in class. It says the human race will all become idiots because the smart and successful people are so caught up in their jobs that they don’t reproduce and that’s all the idiots are doing, is making babies. Also, advances in technology are making life so easy that we don’t do anything basically. I thought the movie was hilarious and I definitely don’t see the world coming to this so I’m not worried at all.

Blog Entry #8So, the week after we discussed chapter 7 we had a discussion in class about homeland security and I feel that we have come a long way from the beginning, which is kind of being mocked with the photo I have here. We discussed how the terror levels changed. I feel as though we are always at a somewhat high level, so we are too comfortable with the security situation we are in now.

Blog Entry #7I haven’t really talked much about what I’ve been learning from the textbook in this blog, so I figured I’d talk about Chapter 7 in Blog 7. Chapter 7 talks about modern art. I can’t really say I’m an art fan I’ve tried to appreciate it in the past but I just can’t seem to look deeper to find a bigger meaning to it all. I never understand why these works are sold for so much money, when I don’t think they’re really that good. Many say art is open for interpretation, but I feel like this kind of art, only the artist knows what he was really trying to achieve by making  this piece.

Extra Blog #6Where in the World is Osama bin Laden is a documentary by Morgan Spurlock as he tries to find America’s Most Wanted Man without any military training. His purpose for making this film was because he wants to make the world a safer place before his son is born. So, he goes out and tries to learn the life of Osama bin Laden to try to figure out what goes on inside his mind and possibly figure out where he is hiding.

Extra Blog #5I remember we were talking about forums one day in class and I rely on forums to keep up with what is going on in New Jersey. This nj.com forum really keeps me updated with my home high school’s sports teams and any other important topics being discussed. I like reading other people’s opinions and I enjoy having the opportunity to give my own.

Extra Blog #4In one of our classes, we worked with the program Second Life of Marist College. I’ve never heard of this program nor have I heard of anything like it. I think it’s really impressive to walk around the virtual world that has been created and you can do whatever you want. Some may argue it’s not like the real world, but it’s one of the closest programs we have, especially about our own college. I know this is just the earliest version and I’m looking forward to seeing newer and improved versions.
